GOV. Aris Aumentado assured his administration’s support to corn farmers in the province.
This came during his visit to Farmer Field Day last week held at Corn Techno Demo in barangay Guadalupe, Carmen town, where the 50-hectare demo is located.
“Among gipasaligan sila na sa atong administration nakig alayon kita sa atong Department of Agriculture sa pakig bisog kabahin sa Food Security,” he said. (I assured that my administration will coordinate with Department of Agriculture in the struggle for food security).
He also said that he’s implementing the Provincial-led Agriculture & Fisheries Extension System (PAFES) so to converge the agricultural programs of the province and the national.
This (program convergence) is being achieved through consultation with farmers and fisherfolk concerned to take advantage of the national government assistance.
The Aumentado’s administration has prioritized the improvement of the agriculture sector to respond to the call for food sufficiency of the national government.
The Provincial Agriculturist Office disclosed the corn seeds distribution update to the farmers as of August 2022.
There are 1,432 bags of hybrid yellow corn seeds to benefit some 146 farmers and only sixty-five (65) sacks remain. There are 36 towns benefited from this variety.
The supply of 706 bags of open-pollinated variety (OPV) white corn seeds has been distributed to 19 beneficiaries with 94 sacks have yet to be distributed. Forty (40) towns are recipients of this variety. (rvo)
