Desalination of potable water projects in island brgys. pushed

THE provincial government now under the administration of Gov. Aris Aumentado is pushing for more desalination projects for potable water especially in the island barangays of Bohol.

Even before he became the governor of Bohol and while he was congressman of the 2nd district, Aumentado was instrumental in setting up of some of the water desalination projects in island-barangays off Getafe town.

The provincial government during the previous administration has already put up similar (now existing) projects in the island-barangays of Pamilacan, Baclayon; Cuaming, Inabanga; Cabilao and Sandingan, all of Loon town, according to the Provincial Engineer’s Office (PEO).

According to PEO, four (4) solar-powered desalination potable projects under the Philippine Rural Development Projects (PRDP) are ready for bidding: Barangay Cataban, Potable Water system, Cataban island, Talibon; Guindacpan island, all in Talibon town and Hingotanan West and Bilangbilngan Island, all in Bien-Unido, Bohol. Each has a total project amount of P13,341,486.00.

The Cataban project is scheduled to be bid out on August 23, 2022, while the other three, on September1, 2022.

Aumentado has proposed 10 similar solar-powered potable water desalination projects in island barangays:  Calituban island, Talibon; Cabul-an, Buenavista;  Gaos, Pres. Carlos P. Garcia; Malingin, Bien-Unido; Busalian, Talibon; Pinamgo, Bien-Unido; Jandayan, Getafe; Handumon, Getafe; Sandingan, Loon; and Suba, Talibon.

PEO has also embarked on other projects, such construction of abattoirs under PRDP. These are the Tagbilaran City AA Abattoir in barangay Tiptip with funding worth Php150,331,841.23; Rehabilitation and upgrading of Valencia abattoir in Catug-an, Valencia, Bohol, Php16,603,363.47; and Rahabilitation/Upgrading of Loon Abattoir, Cogon, Loon town, Php21,258,613.21

The Tagbilaran City abattoir project has been approved while the Valencia and Loon slaughterhouses are on the process of complying the documentary requirements.

PRDP is also assisting the provincial government in the latter’s thrust and development of agriculture. (rvo)
