THE Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD), and the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), led by Gov. Aris Aumentado, fully support the proposed Ubi Research and Development (R&D) Project in the province.
The initiative was discussed on June 23, 2023, at the Provincial Planning and Development (PPDO) Conference Room during a courtesy visit of the Crops Research Division (CRD) of DOST-PCAARRD with officials from the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office VII (DA-RFO 7)—Bohol Experiment Station, Philippine Root Crop Research and Training Center (PhilRootcrops) of Visayas State University, DOST Bohol, Bohol Island State University (BISU), Ubi Grower’s Association (BUGA), Bohol Purple Women, and the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPV).
In line with PGBh’s goal of practicing climate-smart agriculture, the main purpose of the proposed project is to propel high-yield production of the root crop through proper and sustainable management in farming, building food processing centers, acquisition of machinery and equipment, and marketing, with the target of making Ubi a Geographical Indication (GI) of Bohol by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL).
In the afternoon, all participants in the meeting proceeded to a field visit at the BUGA Ubi processing plant located in Corella, Bohol. (PiMO/JSS)
