The Philippine Professional Standards for Supervisors (2019) provides a view of learning and development as centering on supervisors’ abilities to develop themselves and others through sustained commitment. The view for L&D is further supported by professional networks, personal and professional development, professional reflection, and learning to improve practice and support for rewards and recognition. (PNU LisQuP, Module # 7: Differentiating Supervisors’ Learning and Development Interventions in the New Normal).
Public Schools District Supervisors (PSDS) are tasked and mandated to oversee the performance of the schools under their supervision. They need to identify the different concerns, issues, gaps, and difficulties that need to be provided with interventions to meet the expected targets as planned and mandated, as specified in their key result areas.
Learning and development (L&D) is a systematic process to enhance an employee’s skills, knowledge, and competency, resulting in better performance in a work setting. Specifically, learning is concerned with the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and attitudes. Development is the broadening and deepening of knowledge in line with one’s development goals (https://www.aihr.com/blog/ learning-and-development).
The main reason why, PSDSs need to attend coaching and mentoring, training, and other capacity-building programs are to enhance their skills and competencies. Be it done in a virtual or in-person manner. It has been said, “you can not give, what you do not have”.
