“Basyang” cause thousands to evacuate for safety as 24-hour rainfall continues

THOUSANDS of individuals left their respective homes in the towns, either forced or voluntary evacuation, for safety as the drizzle continues for over 24 hours starting Thursday noon to Friday brought about by typhoon “Basyang” traversing Central Visayas.

Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office head Anthony Damalerio said there’s no single major damage nor death reported, so far.

Gov. Aris Aumentado on Thursday issued Executive Order No. 07, series of 2026, suspending all public school classes in the entire province for two days (Feb. 5 and 6). He also declared suspension all of works in all government agencies for Feb. 6.

This came after the entire Bohol was placed under tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) number 2.

The Philippine Coast Guard Bohol issued an advisory banning all sea vessels, passenger and fishing, from sailing out to sea as the tropical storm was expected forthcoming last Thursday and Friday.

1,632 individuals or 532 families abandoned their abodes and sought safer shelter in various evacuation centers in the town of Candijay as of 9 a.m., Feb. 6, the Candijay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management office reported.

In Tagbilaran city, a total of 428 individuals or 120 families made the evacuation in barangays, Bool, Taloto, Manga,St. Joseph Cathedral and One way church in Manga.

In the town of Anda, some 45 individuals or 16 families left their homes in various barangays for safety as of 10:40 this morning (Feb. 6, 2026), Anda Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management office as quoted by Kagawad John Deligero.

Catigbian Mayor Benje Oliva and the CMDRRMO who have been staying its command center to monitor Basyang, said in fb post that some 138 families from nine barangays have been evacuated for safety.

In Alicia town, some rolling stones in a sort of landslide that blocked the roads prompted the municipal government thru its Mayor Junjun Ayuban to temporarily close the road leading to barangay Del Monte-Sudlon-Cagongcagong. The mayor advised residents and motorists to take the road in barangay La Hacienda from Sudlon and Cagongcagong as an alternative route.

Bohol Light released its own weather bulletin No. 4 dated Feb. 6 @ 10 in the morning: “Tagbilaran City is currently experiencing light rain and overcast skies as Tropical Storm “Basyang” continues to move over the Bohol Sea toward Central Visayas. Winds are light to moderate, and the temperature is approximately 28°C, maintaining warm and humid conditions this morning.”

The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) reported that there are two irrigation systems that are dripping from their normal situation. The Malinao Dam in Pilar town and Zamora Dam in Talibon town are spilling. Malinao dam has overflowed to 152.44 meters from tis normal 152 meters, while Zamor dam spilling a little, 30.28 meters from its normal 30 meters.

Other irrigation systems —- Bayongan (SanMiguel), Capayas (Ubay), and Benliw (Ubay) remain normal in their water level. (Ric Obedencio)
