TAGBILARAN City Mayor Jane Yap extended her support to the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) during the comprehensive training session held on September 5, 2024, at JJ’s Seafood Village in Tagbilaran City.

This training reinforces the city’s ongoing initiatives to enhance community safety and strengthen the collaboration between local police forces and community-based peacekeeping teams.

The training was organized by the Tagbilaran City Police Station, under the leadership of Chief of Police, P/Lt.Col. John Kareen Escober.

The event began with a solemn prayer led by Pastor Reysam Carvero, the TCPS Life Coach, which set a tone of unity, reflection, and commitment among the participants.

Following this, P/Lt. Joseph Edwin Silagan delivered a statement of purpose, underscoring the critical role of BPAT members in supporting local police efforts to combat crime and maintain order within their respective barangays.

In a statement, Mayor Yap praised the BPAT members for their dedication to public service and their active involvement in maintaining peace and order at the grassroots level. She highlighted the importance of community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement as essential elements in the city’s strategy to create a safe and secure environment for all residents.

“The BPAT members are an integral part of our community’s security framework. Their dedication and vigilance help us to effectively address the safety concerns of our residents and ensure that peace and order are maintained across all barangays,” Mayor Yap said.

The training session focused on a range of topics crucial to effective community policing, including crime prevention strategies, emergency response, and conflict resolution. This activity aimed to equip BPAT members with the skills and knowledge necessary to handle real-life situations efficiently and confidently.

The BPAT is a program of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) that aims to organize and mobilize various sectors of the community to act as force multipliers in the maintenance of peace, order, and public safety. Under the supervision and control of police community precincts, BPAT members play a crucial role in supporting the efforts of local law enforcement to prevent crime and maintain security at the barangay level.
