IN A bid to avert the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF) virus, documents, like ASF negative test, livestock inspection certificate and barangay certification as to its source are still required before any movement of pigs or its products may be allowed in going out of Dauis town.
This came despite the lifting of ASF border control in May 3 after 15 days of monitoring and surveillance has passed without any positive signs of the swine virus. ASF infection in the three barangays was detected and reported on April 17.
The requirement is contained section 2, number 3 of the Executive Order No. 17, series of 2024, lifting the ASF border checkpoints at Dauis Bridge and causeways on May 3, issued by Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado.
According to Capitol’s press statement, it identifies Purok 5 of Brgy. Mayacabac and Purok 2 of Brgy. Mariveles as the infected premises.
While Barangay Biking and the puroks in brgy. Mayacabac and Mariveles have been reclassified to ASF Quarantine Area-Level 2, according to the governor’s fiat.
The said EO stressed the disease surveillance and random blood sample collection for ASF testing along with information and education campaigns will continue in ASF Quarantine Area-Level 2 areas.
Prior to their slaughtering, pigs shall undergo ASF rapid testing to certify the absence of infection.
“Since then, the ASF Task Force had implemented containment measures including border control, disease surveillance, barangay assemblies, as well as blood sample collection and testing to prevent the spread of the disease.”
The governor announced the lifting of the check points and return the traffic flow to its normal with the two bridges connecting the city and Panglao island back to two-way street for vehicles.
“Please continue to remain vigilant and report any unusual occurrences or signs of illness among livestock to the authorities. Your cooperation has been instrumental in managing this situation effectively,” the governor told the public. (rvo)
