IN A heartwarming display of support for students embarking on a new academic journey, the City Government of Tagbilaran, under the leadership of Mayor Jane Yap, provided a seamless and uplifting start on the first day of classes at Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School Senior High School (DCPNHS SHS) at barangay Cabawan.

The opening day on February 1, 2024, marked –  not only the commencement of the academic year – but also the operational debut of the impressive 32-classroom DCPNHS SHS building.

City Mayor Jane Yap personally joined the momentous occasion, standing alongside personnel from the Department of Education, City Schools Division, to welcome and witness the beginning of classes at DCPNHS SHS.

Understanding the potential challenges of the first day of classes in a new venue, the City Government of Tagbilaran took proactive measures to ease the transition for students with the free bus rides provided in the morning and afternoon throughout the entire month of February 2024. This privilege ensures a convenient form of transportation to and from DCPNHS SHS for all students.

This initiative aims to alleviate transportation concerns and create a smooth transition into the academic year.

To further support the students, the City Government collaborated with DIWA Partylist to offer free meals during the opening of classes. The provision of hot meals is a thoughtful gesture, adding a touch of warmth and nourishment to the students’ first day in their new academic setting.

In partnership with the Bureau of Fire Tagbilaran and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, truckloads of potable water were dispatched to DCPNHS SHS. These collaborative efforts ensured access to clean water for the students throughout the day, enhancing their overall well-being and comfort.

Mayor Yap expressed her enthusiasm for a positive start in the academic year, saying, “The first day of school is a significant milestone for our students. We want to ensure that it is not just an educational experience but a positive and memorable one. The support we provide today sets the tone for a successful academic journey.”
