THE Miss Universe-Philippines has somehow loosened the rules or mechanics in choosing or accepting applicants for Miss Universe-Philippines, the most prestigious beauty pageant in the country.

A married woman even with children may join the Miss Universe-Phils competition, MUPh national director Shamcey Supsup-Lee said when asked by this writer during the presscon held at Henann resort, Panglao yesterday (Oct. 22).

The MUPh would not accept transgender aspirants even if the Miss Universe International may allow it. But there’s no limit of the age as long as the aspirant is 18 years old and up, Supsup-Lee added.

Another rule is that no individual applicant will be accepted to join the pageantry. An applicant to be qualified will have to go through the selection process under the accredited Miss Universe-Phils. One should be a winner in the regional selection, she added.

She said that the selection to start and to come up with an aspirant by January next year and then by February the selection process will commence.

Supsup-Lee pins high hopes that another Boholana be qualified to be the next Miss Universe-Philippines next year.

Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Cajes-Yap also graced the event.

Supsup was here to launch the MUPhBohol and contract signing and turnover of certificate for the accreditation partner led by Wilma Laude Zamora, a Boholana who hails from Talibon town but residing in Cebu during the program.

Wilma Laude Zamora, Mrs. Icon World 2023 and the accredited Franchise Provincial Director of MUPh Bohol said that tonight’s event will be one for the books. “We do not only officially launch the Miss Universe Ph Bohol but also carve history because we’re bringing the universe in the tenth largest province in the Philippines. Truly, Behold Bohol!,” Zamora expressed.

Supsup is an architect after graduating from University of the Philippines. She was crowned as Binibining Pilipinas Universe 2011 and represented the Philippines at the Miss Universe 2011 pageant in São Paulo, Brazil, where she finished as 3rd Runner-Up.

Supsup then became pageant organization director. In 2019, Supsup was appointed by Miss Universe Organization as national director for the Miss Universe Philippines Organization, succeeding former national director Stella Araneta of Binibining Pilipinas. (Ric V. Obedencio).
