Tagbilaran City unveils important Cultural Property Markers

UNVEILING.  The LGU Tagbilaran spearheaded the ceremonial unveiling of Important Cultural Property (ICP) Markers of the city last September 27, 2023 at the National Museum of the Philippines-Bohol.  Notable personalities graced the occasion which include (from left) Handel Lagunay, Gloria Balili-Katz, City Mayor Jane Yap, Atty. Ma. Cecilia Tirol, Norma Beldia and Vice City Mayor Adam Relson Jala.

A MOMENTOUS event unfolded on September 27, 2023 as Tagbilaran City unveiled its Important Cultural Property (ICP) markers at a ceremonial event held at the National Museum of the Philippines-Bohol.

This significant occasion, not only celebrated the city’s rich cultural heritage, but also underscored its commitment to preserving its historical treasures for future generations.

In her message during the occasion, Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Yap said: “Our cultural heritage is our identity, and these markers are our way of saying that we treasure our past as we embrace our future. This is a testament to our commitment to safeguarding our cultural heritage, ensuring that the legacy of Tagbilaran lives on in the hearts and minds of our citizens for years to come.”

The ceremony was also graced by the following esteemed guests: Bohol Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado represented by Provincial Legal Officer Atty. Handel Lagunay; Atty. Ma. Cecilia Tirol, Director of Visayas National Museum; Ms. Rachelle Lacea, Head of the National Museum of the Philippines-Bohol; and City Vice Mayor Adam Relson Jala.

They joined Mayor Jane Yap in delivering messages that highlighted the importance of heritage preservation and collective responsibility to cherish and protect the city’s cultural legacy.

The highlight of the event was the ceremonial unveiling of the ICP markers of four historically significant sites within Tagbilaran City – the Beldia House, Balili House, Plaza Rizal, and Escuelas de las Niñas y Niños.

These sites have played pivotal roles in the city’s history, serving as witnesses to its transformation through the years.

The event also featured a scrap-to-splendor fashion show, showcasing “Basura to Bag” accessories and creations of the Tagbilaran City Livelihood and Community Development Unit and Marilyn Tutor of Jewellynne Accessories.

This unique fashion show exemplified the city’s commitment to sustainable practices and creativity in turning scrap materials into stunning fashion pieces.

The ICP markers, unveiled amidst a backdrop of cultural performances and local art exhibitions, signify Tagbilaran City’s dedication to heritage preservation.

They provide an opportunity for residents and tourists alike to connect with the city’s history, fostering a deeper appreciation for its cultural roots.
