Bohol Arnis secures 5 medals in Cebu;
First PEKAF Zubiri Cup to be held here

FOUR out of eight athletes from the EGC Arnis Combat Martial Arts – Antequera, Bohol Team, under the Arnis De Caballes Bohol Chapter, claimed five (5) medals at the World Arnis Invitational Championship held at the Cebu City Sports Club, Cebu City, Philippines, from August 2 to 6, 2023. This achievement was guided by Master Instructor Eugene Coquilla, a Sangguniang Member of Antequera.

It is worth noting that all of them reached the semi-finals, including Aaron Scott Gamalo, Anthony Sanchez, Emanuele Bergantin, and Shielo Cruspero. Andrie Boctoto, a 17-year-old, earned a gold medal in Padded Stick Sparring and bronze in Single Live Stick Sparring Junior Male Category, while 14-year-old Jayshel Bea Sarabia secured gold in Single Live Stick Sparring Women Junior Category.

Further, Jade Peter Torculas, 14, won gold in the Stick Sparring Junior Male Category while Mary Rose Quiros, 14, earned silver in the Stick Sparring Junior Female Category.

The event was organized by the Department of Tourism Region 7, known as the SGM Cacoy Cañete FMA Fest 2023, in cooperation with the Cebu City Government, the Philippine Arnis Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation, and Cacoy Cañete Doce Pares.

Antequera SB Member Eugene Coquilla expressed that this was their team’s inaugural participation in the Arnis arena, and they managed to collect five medals.

On October, Senator Migz Zubiri is sponsoring the 1st PEKAP Bohol Sen. Migz Zubiri Cup Arnis Regional Invitational Championship, the largest Arnis Championship in the region, to be held in Antequera, Bohol, from October 16 to 20.

The Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), led by Governor Aris Aumentado, prioritizes youth development through the Grassroots Sports Program, anchored in the Strategic Change Agenda. PGBh also hopes to produce prime Boholano athletes that can represent Bohol in national and international sports events. (PiMO/ALT)
