Local industry development council beefs
up plans for first Bohol World Bamboo Day

BAJA

BOHOL Bamboo Industry Development Council president and Garcia Hernandez Mayor Jess Baja presided over a follow-up meeting with its officers on July 5, 2023, at the Ceremonial Hall of the Capitol.

The meeting is in preparation for the first-ever celebration in Bohol of World Bamboo Day this coming September 23, 2023, which will be held in Garcia Hernandez.

One of the major highlights of the celebration is the planting of 11,000 bamboo propagules in Brgy. Candanas in Garcia Hernandez.

The council is set to meet with Governor Aris Aumentado on the final lineup of activities for the event.

The conservation of bamboo and the promotion of the bamboo industry aligns with the Provincial Government’s agenda to strengthen the local economy, develop climate-smart agriculture and promote environmental sustainability.

In 2022, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), a member of the council, organized the Bohol Bamboo Expo. The expo featured bamboo products and raw materials, and numerous applications of bamboo, not only for construction and furniture, but also for environmental purposes particularly in mitigating floods.

DTI said bamboo has been identified as one of their priority industries in the province where an estimated 1,881.61 hectares of bamboo have been planted.

World Bamboo Day is celebrated to recognize the versatility of the bamboo plant and to increase awareness of the commercial, personal, and sustainable use of bamboo. (PiMO/LMS)
