Bohol celebrates Francisco Dagohoy Day

THE Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), headed by Governor Aris Aumentado and Vice Governor Dionisio Victor Balite, commemorates Francisco Dagohoy Day in a solemn flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony on July 4, 2023, at Camp Francisco Dagohoy, Tagbilaran City.

Instituted by Republic Act 11444, Bohol commemorates with a special working holiday the patriotic legacy of Francisco “Dagohoy” Sendrijas (c. 1724), who initiated the longest Philippine revolt from July 4, 1744, until August 31, 1829, against the Spanish colonial government.

In his speech, Gov. Aumentado remembers the great warrior, who fought for equity, justice, and freedom. He added that Dagohoy’s legacy inspires Boholanos to overcome challenges, honor their rich heritage, and strive for a better province with strength, unity, and resilience.

The event was attended by the members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Bohol, the Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO), led by Director PCOL Lorenzo Batuan, the command group, PGBh staff, and BPPO officers. (PIMO/JJS)
