Rectify it now!

BOHOL as one of the 18th – and the first in the Philippines – new global geoparks this year?

This was announced by no less than the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in its executive Board Session held in Paris, France on May 24, 2023.

As a true-blooded Boholano, who is not proud of such award reaped by the province?

Everyone must be proud!

And every Boholano must congratulate one another. This honor is not dedicated to only one, two, or three Boholanos. It surely includes officials, elected and not elected. Even the poorest poor Bol-anon in the streets are not excluded.

Such an honor is the result of a concentrated effort and cooperation among all Boholanos.

For had it not of the virtue of cooperation among Bohol’s citizenry, could the scenery of the famous Chocolate Hills be as beautiful as it is today?

Short Cuts believes otherwise.

Bohol’s nomination to the world heritage is “a powerful, fantastic choice”, declared Laure Beaufils, British Ambassador to the Philippines when she was in the province recently. “It will make it a boost as tourist destination”, she added.

But, with the accolade presently earned by our province, let every Boholano be reminded that had it not of then Governor Lino Chatto’s leadership of the province some sixty years ago, Chocolate Hills could have not existed.

If Short Cuts’ memory does not fail him, Chocolate Hills entry to the World’s Wonders started during Lino Chatto’s incumbency as the governor of the province.

Therefore, as a gesture of respect and admiration, let every Boholano express his word of thanks to the late Governor for a job well done.

The recent feat that Bohol province acquired is, however, marred with this single but an equally important subject of inquiry.

How true that the real site of the Blood Compact is in the Municipality of  Loay and NOT in the City of Tagbilaran?

The only portion of the narration that described the site of the Blood Compact that Short Cuts could `not forget is this fact: The event took place on a site beside a river.

So, this query could be asked further: Is the present site of the Blood Compact in the City of Tagbilaran beside a river?

To every Tagbilaranons and Bol-anons, the answer is definitely, NO. If the answer is NO, why not correct the error now?

It’s timely to RECTIFY it NOW.
