THE Philippine Red Cross (PRC) turned over certificates of occupancy to 70 beneficiaries of their Full Shelter Assistance (FSA) Project as part of their continuous relief and recovery aid project for Boholanos affected by Typhoon Odette.
Held on May 6, 2023, at Brgy. San Carlos, Talibon, PRC unveiled 70 full shelter houses for the residents, worth over 25.9 million pesos. The FSA Project fully covered the construction and labor costs of the shelters, with construction starting in October 2022 and was completed in April 2023, with support from the South Korean embassy, Starbucks, Rustans Coffee, Singapore Red Cross, Reckitt, Honda, and Kuwait Red Crescent.
Governor Aris Aumentado attended the event to show his support for the PRC’s initiative in helping Bohol recover from the aftermath of Typhoon Odette. Aumentado, in his message, said that the Provincial Government of Bohol is always open to collaborating with PRC to create more recovery projects for the Province.
Other attendees, who gave their messages of support for the project, included Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDDRO) OIC and PRC-Bohol Chapter Vice Chairman Dr. Anthony Damalerio and Talibon Vice Mayor Dave Evangelista.
PRC Chairman and former Senator Richard Gordon gave a keynote message on volunteerism and encouraged attendees to do good and help out in their communities, especially during events of natural hazards. Now in his 54th year in the organization, Gordon is showing no signs of stopping from doing recovery projects, saying that he is committed to helping Bohol, which he said has a special place in his heart, recover from disasters.
Gordon added that PRC will also be conducting a livelihood assistance project for 500 beneficiaries in the Province for the following years as part of their goals to provide stability and security for those who were badly affected by Typhoon Odette last December 2021. (PIMO/GMC)
