JIHAN Claire Antoque of the University of Bohol bagged the Grand Prize for her song “Wa’y Undangay” in the Saulog Tagbilaran Himo’g Huni Ika-Lima’ng Hugna Schools Circle Edition held at the Bohol Cultural Center on April 23, 2023.
Antoque’s composition was interpreted on stage by Anne Milicent Duaban. Antoque received a plaque and a cash prize of P35,000.00.
The songwriting competition drew participants from various schools in the province.
Out of the many entries, 8 finalists were chosen to perform their original compositions in front of a panel of judges and a live audience.
Geode Anne Cacho and Kian Shane Olorvida of the Tagbilaran City College won the 1st Runner-Up slot with their song “Salig Lang”, which was interpreted by Kian Shane Olorvida and Hannah Carlom. Cacho and Olorvida received a plaque and a cash prize of P25,000.00.
Janwel and Ermar Ladaga of the Bohol Island State University (BISU) Balilihan Campus [grabbed] the 2nd Runner Up spot with their upbeat song “Sayaw Inday”, interpreted by Sam Josephus Biliran. They also won Best in Lyricism award. They received a plaque and a cash prize of P15,000.00.
Special awards were won by the following: “Sayaw Inday” – Best in Melody; “Te Amo” – Social Media award; and Fedrianne Villanueva and Catherine Cueva – Best Interpreter award for “Te Amo”.
The finalists of Himo’g Huni Ika-Lima’ng Hugna Schools Circle Edition included: Muryl Jun Manganop’s “Kingtal Gesta” from Holy Name University; Murly Zon Manganop’s “Kuyugan Teka” from PMI Colleges-Bohol; Jannzen Humol’s “Sagmuyo” from BISU Main Campus; John Carlo Lapore Galario’s “Lisud Na” from BIT International College; and Christopher Lusan’s “Te Amo” also from BIT International College.
The judges of this year’s Himo’g Huni are all renowned song composers. They are: Jude Thaddeus Gitamondoc, the man behind the hit songs Hahahasula and Peru Atik Ra; Fr. Arnold Zamora who has written songs and recorded by Basil Valdez; Kyla; the Philippine Madrigal Singers; and Atty. Antonio Amora Jr., the composer of the hit song Damgo Man Lang, among others.
This Saulog Tagbilaran event was organized by Joseph Gara, his team and the City Government of Tagbilaran through the Tagbilaran City Events, Culture, and Arts Office.
The competition showcased the talents of local young musicians and served as a platform to express their creativity and share their message through music.
