THE Provincial Government of Bohol, through Vice Governor Dionisio Balite and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) members, met with Boholano Track & Field athletes on a Courtesy Call at the Provincial Capitol Building on April 4, 2023.
11 of 19 athletes who represented Bohol at the recently concluded Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA) National Championships and their coaches, were formally recognized by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan for their performance.
The SP Members moved for a resolution to recognize the athletes for their recent performance, taking home 14 medals: six gold, four silver, and four bronze, bringing pride and honor to the province.
During the PATAFA championships, Bohol was declared the Overall Champion for the Girls-Under-18 Category. Baclayon athlete Liznie Delfino was given a special award for Most Outstanding Athlete in this year’s championship games for bagging two gold and one silver medal.
The Provincial Youth Development Office (PYDO) OIC Metudio Maraguinot Jr. said the Provincial Government is proud of what the athletes have achieved and will continue to have a developmental, holistic, and grassroots approach in their sports programs that aims to produce top athletes that can represent the country in various international competitions.
Two Track & Field Athletes from Bohol are also set to represent Bohol, Athletes Anfernee Lopena of Dauis and Ronne Malipay of Trinidad will compete this May in Cambodia. Lopena, PATAFA National Championships bronze medalist this year, will compete in the 100-meter dash and relay, while Malipay will compete in the men’s triple jump.
Both athletes have competed in the previous 2021 SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam, and the 2019 edition in the Philippines. (PIMO/GMC)
