THE Philippine Health. Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) held its Social Health Insurance Education Series (SHInES) with Bohol Mayors and other LGU representatives as part of its information campaign to promote the implementation of the Universal Health Care Act (UHC) in rural health units in the province.
Held on March 30, 2023, at the Ceremonial Hall of the New Capitol Building, 11 Bohol Municipal Mayors, together with Municipal Health Officers and other LGU representatives, were present at the education and familiarization drive on the RA 11223 or UHC and the Special Health Fund.
“We aim to make the UHC a part of Bohol’s healthcare system. This will benefit people who will avail of cheaper or free healthcare services through the Konsulta Package, which makes free consultations, prescribed medicines, and laboratory testing accessible among Boholanos,” PhilHealth-7 Regional Vice President Marjorie Cabrieto said.
During the SHInES event, PhilHealth discussed the Social Health Insurance and the NHIP salient provisions of the UHC, presented by the Senior Manager of the Social Health Insurance Academy, Arsenia Torres. This was followed by a presentation on the UHC’s financial coverage and the Special Health Fund by Acting Senior Vice President and Fund Management Sector Renato Limsiaco Jr.
Provincial Administrator Asteria Caberte and Bohol Local Chief Executives (LCEs) took part in a ceremonial commitment signing to symbolize their support of PhilHealth’s initiative towards medical equity for Boholanos through adapting the Konsulta Package in Rural Health Units and other accredited medical facilities in the province.
According to Caberte, the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) is committed to implementing the UHC in the Province’s Healthcare system, with 99 rural health units in Bohol adopting the Konsulta Package in their services.
PhilHealth’s SHInES is a nationwide information drive that started in 2012, targeting LCEs, and informing them on the role of local governance in implementing quality healthcare services to Filipinos, especially for those living in rural areas. (PIMO/GMC)
