THE Taloto Wild Dragons paddled their way to victory in the Saulog Inter Barangay Dragon Boat Race held on March 18, 2023 along the sea waters off the K of C Promenade, Tagbilaran City.
Paddling at 59 minutes and 47 seconds, the Taloto Wild Dragons bested seven other teams representing barangays Poblacion II, Ubujan, Dao, Cogon, Tiptip, Bool and Poblacion III.
Team Dos Haguros of Poblacion II bagged the second place at 1 hour and 19 seconds while the Ubujan Paddlers settled at third place with a run time of 1 hour, 1 minute and 29 seconds.
Barangay Dao’s Daorchins placed fourth in a thrilling finish of 20 seconds after Ubujan Paddlers.
During the awarding ceremony at the City Hall Atrium on March 21, 2023, Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Yap extended her congratulations to the winning teams.
She said, “We are delighted by the exceptional display of team work, strength and determination of all the competing dragon boat teams. This is indeed another Saulog Tagbilaran event that we all look forward to and we are thankful to the Bohol Paddlers Association led by its President, Dr. Theodore Dumaluan for successfully organizing the competition.”
The Saulog Inter Barangay Dragon Boat Race gained popularity online and garnered regional and national media attention, primarily due to the use of the glow-in-the-dark boats. All these boats paddling their way to victory presented a sight to behold, the first of its kind for Bohol.
The winning team of the Taloto Wild Dragons was composed of Armand Estaño, Aldren Ocat, Amiel Ocat, Floro Baliog Jr., Richard Calipes, John Reamdune Rementizo, Elmer John Estallo, Julius Tapuroc, Andy Estaño, Steven Mon Roe Albuladora, Mark Daniel Nisnisan, Justine Refulle, Johnray Onyot (Drummer) and Roland Legaspi (Helm) led by team coach paddler Guiler Tirado.
