Youth Engagement in Community Activities

IT has been said that the youth cannot only learn something at home and in school. They can also learn outside their respective homes and school. In other words, youths can learn something significant in any place or wherever they are into. Indeed, it takes the whole village to educate a child.

Engaging our teenagers in various activities in the community is beneficial to them. It is because it can also develop them holistically. Their social, mental, and emotional skills will be enhanced when they engaged themselves in different activities in the community where they are living. So, it is proper to let the youth engage and participate in different activities of the community.

There are plenty of skills among our youth that can be developed through engaging them in different activities in the community. It can develop their leadership, social, communication, analytical, critical thinking, and judgment skills. Their leadership skill will be developed since they are leading a group of people. Social skills will be enhanced through dealing with different kinds of people. Communication skills will be developed through engaging themselves with speaking commitments as well as sending communications to other people. Analytical skills will be developed since they will be analyzing some things from time to time. Critical thinking will be enhanced since they need to think from time to time, especially if they are going to do some programs and projects. Their judgment skill will also be developed since there are things that they are going to decide as a leader or a member of an organization assigned to do something.

Another important reason why they must engage in different activities in the community is to prepare them for the future. If they will engage in the activities of the community, they will be trained on how to lead the community in the future. They will know how to lead the community where they are living. They will have ideas about what to do if they become leaders if the future. When they become adults and community leaders, it will be easy for them to do everything since they are properly trained by engaging them in different activities of the community to where they belong to.

At home, in school, in the church, and wherever in the community, the youth must be given a chance to be part of different activities where they are given a chance to be a leader or to be a part of any program, project, or activity of the community. They must be given some responsibilities for them to become responsible for everything. They must be assigned some tasks that can develop them in one way or another. It is simply because it can be beneficial to the youth of our community.

Research has consistently shown that participating in communities and being a part of groups working together on an issue has numerous benefits for young people themselves. Youth engagement can lead to increased academic performance and improved social-emotional well-being. It helps young people build skills and networks that are valued in the workplace, and can thus be a source of economic mobility. When youth feel empowered to take action, and when they see their efforts achieve positive change, it can have a profound and lasting impact ( Why is Youth Civic Engagement Important, March 11, 2023 ).

It is one of the guiding principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that has been reiterated in many other Conventions and Declarations. Through active participation, young people are empowered to play a vital role in their own development as well as in that of their communities, helping them to learn vital life skills, develop knowledge on human rights and citizenship, and to promote positive civic action. To participate effectively, young people must be given the proper tools, such as information, education about, and access to their civil rights ( March 11, 2023 ).

Parents, guardians, teachers, and people in authority like government officials must see to it that from time to time they will engage our youths in different activities in the community. It is because letting our youth engage in those community activities can be beneficial to them.

Let us help one another in making our youth motivated to engage in different activities in the community where they are living. The government must provide our youth with different programs, projects, and activities that can enhance their talents and skills. Let us help one another in guiding, helping, supporting, and engaging the youth in various social and civic works in the community since it is beneficial to them.
