EVERYTHING in excess is bad. It cannot give someone anything good, but it can only give someone some effects that can cause him or her to be in pain or suffer. Everyone must be guided by this statement that everything in excess is bad since it is not beneficial to anyone. So, everyone must put everything at an average level or in moderation, not less than and not more than the moderate level.
The statement “everything in excess is bad” is also true in terms of drinking and eating. If an individual drinks and eats in excess, it is not good for their health status. It must be done in moderation always so that nothing bad will take place. On the contrary, if drinking and eating are done in excess, it can harm one’s health and well-being. So, drink and eat in moderation.
If you do not drink alcohol, there is no reason to start. If you choose to drink, it is important to have only a moderate or limited amount. Some people should not drink alcohol, for example, if they are pregnant or might be pregnant. A moderate amount of alcohol means one drink or less in a day for women and two drinks or less in a day for men. Keep in mind that drinking less is always healthier than drinking more (Drink Alcohol Only in Moderation- My Health Finder, February 24, 2023).
Moderate drinking seems good for the heart and circulatory system and probably protects against type 2 diabetes and gallstones. Heavy drinking is a major cause of preventable deaths in most countries. In the United States of America, alcohol is implicated in about half of fatal traffic accidents. Heavy drinking can damage the liver and heart, harm an unborn child, increase the chances of developing breast and some other cancers, contribute to depression and violence, and interfere with relationships (Alcohol: Balancing Risks and Benefits, February 24, 2023).
Drinking in excess is not giving drinkers something good, but it can only give plenty of negative effects, especially on their health and well-being affecting their different body organs and systems. It can damage their heart, liver, kidney, heart, brain, lungs, and other body organs making them suffer a lot. Aside from their health and well-being, their social and emotional well-being can also be affected by excessive drinking. Drinkers of alcohol in excess amounts are prone to depression and violence as well, thereby affecting their social and emotional well-being. If they drink alcohol always in excess, they can always be in trouble since they are always under the influence of alcohol, thus making them always fight with others which can make them lose their friends and acquaintances.
On the other hand, eating in excess is not also good for everyone. It is simply because eating in excess amounts can only give some negative effects instead of positive effects to someone. Just like drinking in excess, eating in excess can also harm one’s physical, social, and emotional health and well-being in one way or another. The physical health of someone can be affected by eating in excess affecting one’s different body systems and organs. Social and emotional health can be affected by excessive eating making the person a candidate for possible depression, mood swings, and not in the proper mindset, thereby affecting his or her social and emotional health.
Based on the article “What Happens When You Overeat?” which I read last February 24, 2023, overeating causes the stomach to expand beyond its normal size to adjust to a large amount of food. The expanded stomach pushes other organs, making you uncomfortable. This discomfort can take the form of feeling tired, sluggish, or drowsy.
There are also seven harmful effects of overeating. These are the following: may promote excess body fat, may disrupt hunger regulation, may increase disease risk, may impair brain function, may make you nauseous, may cause excessive gas and bloating, and may make you sleepy (Seven Harmful Effects of Overeating, medically reviewed by Miho Hatanaka, RDN,L.D.-by Daniel Preiato, RD, CSCS on May 4, 2020).
Let us always engrave in our hearts and minds that drinking and eating in excess can give us plenty of negative effects on our health, social and emotional health, and well-being. Always remember to eat and drink in moderation. Let us always remember that everything in excess is absolutely bad and can only give us bad effects. So, let us drink and eat moderately.
