“Ang sekreto sa Abogado”

REPORTS said the country got a visit last week from some European lawmakers to discuss wide-ranging issues, including human rights.

And as expected, they visited detained Senator Leila de Lima and reiterated their request for her freedom.

The European lawmakers also held a closed-door meeting with some senators and very surprisingly, yes, very surprisingly, questioned the resolution opposing the probe of the International Criminal Court into the Duterte administration’s war on drugs.

I really don’t know if this report is true but if it is, I wonder what basis do they have in questioning, yes, questioning a legislative act of a sovereign country like the Philippines.

What gave them the right to question the passage of such a resolution?

Susmariosep.

Bisan gani ang pagpangayo sa kagawasan ni Senador de Lima knowing that she is facing criminal charges in court already smacks of wanton disrespect to our judicial system.

And if they pretend to be concerned about human rights abuses, why single out the lady senator, why not include all the other detainees in the country and placed in a similar situation?

And why single out the Philippines, why not include similar situations in other countries, including those in the European Union?

For instance, do they want to tell all and sundry that there is no such human rights abuses in France, The Netherlands, Germany and other EU countries?

Can they tell the whole world that they have eradicated human rights abuses in their respective countries?

Anyway, the categorical declaration of a big NO by President BBM, to my mind, has sealed the fate of the planned ICC probe in the country.

There is no way that they can do that in the country because in the first place, the President can legally prevent them from entering the country for the conduct of the investigation.

And if a Manila Times columnist is to be believed, the ICC prosecutor’s report is based mainly on newspaper reports which is, under our justice system, double hearsay and therefore, inadmissible in evidence.

Nindot unta og himoon pod ni nila sa North Korea or China or Russia. Let’s see if they can do so.

Reports said administrative charges will be filed against a Bohol judge. As of press time, I am still groping for information on the details of the complaint but somebody already told me about the identity of the judge.

And the same source said the complaint has “damning” evidence that would stun the justices of the Supreme Court.

Why is this so?

Because many people are intrigued by the write-ups of Willy Ramasola in his Facebook account.

Ngano man?

* * *

In the meantime, somebody told me last Friday night that he was also eagerly awaiting the response of IBP-Bohol on the charges raised by Willy Ramasola.

When I asked why, he told me that he also has personal knowledge about the activities of a particular lawyer, nga matod pa niya, gitawag nga “the most sought-after lawyer” in Bohol.

Ahemmm.
