DOLE-Region 7 in partnership with the City Human Resources and Management Office (CHRMO) trained a total of 36 designated safety officers from the Tagbilaran City Government to qualify as Safety Officer 1. This is in compliance with RA 11058 otherwise known as “An Act Strengthening Compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Standards and Providing Penalties for Violations Thereof.”

DOLE-Region 7 Engr. Genis Temosa said that the training was conducted because of the strict requirement of RA 11058, the Occupational Safety and Health Law, which requires all establishment to have at least 1 safety officer.

RA 11058 outlines that employers should provide complete safe work procedures; inform workers of hazards associated with their specific jobs; provide appropriate and personal protective equipment which have passed the DOLE required tests, and provide access to mandatory OSH trainings as prescribed by the DOLE.

“The certificate of training comes within a great responsibility. The trainees should promote and practice safe and healthy working environment hence after graduation they shall become safety and health advocates in their workplaces,” Engr. Temosa emphasized. (Jeanette Busano)
