WE, humans, encounter different problems and challenges every day in our life. It is already part and parcel of our existence as human beings. Some have problems in their families, in their financial aspect, in their work place, in their love life, in their studies and among others. From time to time, we encounter these problems and challenges which are really making us sad, down, tired, weary and in the worst-case scenario, making us stressed and depressed.
However, each and everyone of us, cope differently. There are others who easily manage their problems in life. They know how to carry and face such problems. On the other hand, there are those who cannot do so easily. They find it hard to face their problems which makes them stressed and depressed.
Depression is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how we feel, the way we think and how we act. Depression causes feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities we once enjoyed. It can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems and can decrease our ability to function at work and at home ( What is Depression?, January 24, 2023 ).
Every human being has their own story. They have their own trials and experiences in life. We do not know what every person is going through, that is why it is absolutely important that we must be good and kind to others every day since we really do not know their real stories. There are persons who are smiling, looking happy and have a nice aura, but sad to say they are depressed or they are in pain deep inside their heart. So, let us be good to others always since we do not know what everyone is going through in his or her life.
Being good and kind to others every day is definitely a good act to do. Kindness is defined as the quality of being friendly, generous and considerate to others. Being kind to others means we are showing empathy, acceptance, kind gestures and thoughtfulness to others we meet every day, whether we know them personally or not ( Kindness 101: What is Kindness and How Do You Teach It?, January 24, 2023 ).
Kindness is choosing to do something that helps others or yourself, motivated by genuine warm feelings. Kindness, or doing good to others, often means putting other people’s needs before our own. It could be by giving up our seat on a bus to someone who might need it more, or offering to make a cup of tea for someone at work. Evidence shows that helping others can also benefit our own mental health and well-being. For example, it can reduce stress as well as improve mood, self-esteem and happiness. There are so many ways to help others as part of our everyday lives. Good deeds need not take much time or cost any money ( Kindness Matters Guide, January 24, 2023 ).
Let us always remember to be good to others. We must do this in order for us to avoid hurting other people, for we do not know what they are going through. We should be reminded that we have to treat other well because we do not know their stories. We do not know if they have problems or if they are depressed. We should be good to others even if you do not know them personally.
