The world is an epitome of diversity, to an extent, a chaotic mixture of variety. As a result, it is almost always divided. The world is divided; many times with conflict and global crises. From neighbours arguing with each other, to nations fighting for their claims, and what not. However, in this problem of variety, comes flashes of unity. What I mean by that is, though the world is divided due to many reasons, in the middle of it, comes potential for a better and unified whole. All it needs is a huge push.
In the past few weeks, FIFA has started its competition for the World Cup (a global competition for the best football clubs in the world, by country). The World Cup, is one event where countries wave their flags, not for war, but for the support of their football club. In a sense, it is an event where countries are seen to be enjoying each other’s presence, without conflict (except of course, the conflict of competitiveness in the world of sports). In fact we would see, Iranians together with Americans walking with each other in the spirit of sportsmanship, and many others that are “supposed” or, should I say, “apparent” nemesis in the political stage, talking and toying with each other, in support of their national team. It is a scene bringing people together to cross borders, unite and celebrate. An amazing scene, if I were to say.
With the mirage of unity happening in this global sports event of the World Cup, it is hoped and prayed, that people will begin to realize, that a feat of “unifying a diversity” is not impossible. That people of different colors, or different personalities , or even different customs, can come together and enjoy the fruit of a unity that would not only benefit each of us, but the world as a whole.
Howbeit, all of that remains a mirage, until one heads the hurrah of unity. (AJDB)
