THE Bohol Schools Athletic Association is an aggrupation of Bohol schools entirely grouped together with the sole purpose in mind of promoting sports among the youth.
The same athletic association is centered in basketball and volleyball games. It plays on two divisions: collegiate and secondary for men and boys, women and girls.
Originally membered by only four tertiary schools – University of Bohol, Holy Name University, PMI Colleges-Tagbilaran and BIT International College – in the province, it has now grown in number.
In more than ten years after its birth, the athletic association is now composed of five (5) additional members to the original four, thereby making it nine (9). Added to the new list are: Mater Dei College of Tubigon, Trinidad Municipal College of LGU Trinidad, Bohol Northeastern College of Ubay, BIT International College – Talibon of Talibon, Bohol, and Cristal-e College of Dauis.
This does not mention to the other secondary schools in the province that are already participating in the junior division, both in basketball and volleyball. Additionally participating in this tournament this year are those from Holy Trinity Academy of Loay, Valencia National Tech-Voc. High School of Valencia, Bayawan National High School of Sevilla and Batuan National High School of Batuan.
With the increasing number of participating schools in this year’s tournament, games are now played in different towns in the province. This is a total departure from previous year’s athletic competitions which games were ONLY played in the capital city of Tagbilaran.
In Valencia alone, there were four scheduled volleyball games that were played last week at the Valencia Astrodome where the local (Valencia Volleyball teams, both boys and girls) played.
This does not mention the fact that the same LGU hosted the basketball games last week of November, (both for men and boys), where its basketball boys team was pitted against the BIT Junior Beavers.
The Valencia experience was not the only venue where basketball and volleyball games were played outside the City of Tagbilaran. Local government units of Batuan and Sevilla had their share also.
And, their athletic teams played against the city teams of Tagbilaran.
And, maybe for the first time!
At least, the BSAA tournament could be the guide for our local basketball and volleyball teams to play against the city teams. Had it not of the Bohol School’s Athletic Association, there could have been no such an experience to speak of.
But the success of the BSAA would have not been possible had it not of the supportive attitudes and sports-minded heads of the tertiary schools in the city, years back.
To them, Short Cuts’ wishes for a continued feeling of oneness for the sake of the province’ youth for the next generation.
