CORTES, Bohol, Feb 25 (PIA) – Nearly a year after starting the much-needed inoculations against coronavirus disease (COVID), and while gunning for vaccination of at least 70% of its population, Bohol has managed to give full protection to only 57% of the 70%.
The figure after-all slid back just as Bohol updated its eligible population for vaccinations when it opened up its 12 to 17 years old for vaccination in a sprint to cover as much population as can be before the virus that has mutated countless times, could create another variant.
It may be recalled that it was March 6, 2021, when the first batch of anti-COVID vaccines arrived in Bohol and the inoculations started with the medical frontliners who are immersed in the dangerous environment of managing patients and operating isolation and quarantine facilities.
Nine days before the vaccinations mark its anniversary, local health teams said they have vaccinated some 634,385 eligible Boholanos, according to the Bohol Inter Agency task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease it its COVID-19 Vaccination Report February 23.
Since March 6, or the first vaccine delivery date, Bohol has since received 1,449,142 doses of the vaccines, while about 1,337,930 doses have been dispensed already, the same report showed.
Another 646,527 Boholanos have also received their initial doses while some 57,018 have gotten their booster doses recently.
As of February 23, Bohol still has 111,212 vaccine doses in its cold storage facilities at the Provincial Emergency Operations Center and the town Rural Health Unit cold storage.
Just recently, the BIATF has updated its list of eligible Boholanos for the vaccines, from 961,872 to 1,106,085.
This also means that at 111,212 vaccines left on storage for future vaccine operations, Bohol still needs 2,100,958 for all the 1,106,085 to get the two doses.
If the same number of people demand to get their booster doses, the vaccines needed could bloat to 3,150,025 doses.
With the campaign for local officials just around the corner and the Commission on Elections green-lighting in-person campaigning, the move to floor it on the vaccination becomes even more necessary. (rahc/PIA-7/Bohol)
