THIS issue may have already been touched in this column some months back.
Considering, however, that incidents of the same nature seem to happen unabated for so long a time, Short Cuts has to touch into the same issue. This is done with the hope that concerned government entities can deal on measures to avoid further occurrence.
The issue?
This is about road accidents involving motorcycles. It is either a motorcycle against a motorcycle, a motorcycle against a cargo a truck, a passenger truck against a motorcycle, a dump truck against a motorcycle or a motorcycle against the road itself.
It is a fact that Short Cuts is a daily traveler either to the interior or to the eastern towns of the province. And, in traversing the interior towns, he takes either the Loboc road or the Macapiko road via Balilihan to LGU Carmen.
He usually leaves his Tagbilaran residence while many are still on their beds snoring!
And, it is on these occasions that Short Cuts get the first hand information on these varied happenings.
To Short Cuts’ observation, majority of these incidents are usually caused by drivers of motorcycles.
Either the motorcycle driver is drank or just drove the motorcycle carelessly.
In one incident at LGU Carmen, the motorcycle driver was heavily drank! His motorcycle collided with a dump truck.
How did Short Cuts know of the fact of drunkenness of the driver?
After ascertaining that the driver of the motorcycle was one of his closest friends in LGU Carmen, Short Cuts had to disembark from his motor vehicle and went near the motorcycle driver.
Then and there, he was able to inhale the spirit of Tanduay Rhum coming from the motorcycle driver.
So, who was at fault In that incident? The dump truck driver or the motorcycle driver? Choose your wild, my dear reader!
Another incident . . . .
This happened when Short Cuts was on his way to the calamay town of Jagna to visit his educational institution thereat.
And this happened at a blind curve with Short Cuts as the main victim.
When Short Cuts’ vehicle was negotiating the blind curve, a motorcycle coming from the opposite side was travelling center of the same road.
So, what happened?
Short Cuts’ vehicle was about to experience a head on collision.
And, do you want to know the reaction of the motorcycle driver?
He did not stop.
He was just laughing!
To Short Cuts’ observation, the motorcycle driver could be drunk. If, otherwise, could the driver of the motorcycle just laugh on the occurrence of the incident?
Definitely, NOT.
These two incidents are just samples of what Short Cuts observed on the traffic violations of many motorcycle drivers.
With the so many accidents – including Short Cuts incidents – happening on the roads, what have our government agencies addressed these issues?
Has our Land Transportation Office addressed on the issue?
Were drivers just allowed to drive without any Driver’s License? Or, were they just issued Driver’s License without undergoing lessons on driving?
Short Cuts is just asking. He does not require comments nor answers from any government agency.
