CITY Environment and Natural Resources Officer (CENRO) Ceasar Pelaez and Solid Waste Management Office Head (SWMO) Lito Taladua thanked City Mayor Jane Yap and Chief of Staff Baba Yap for the new garbage trucks given to the SWMO. City Planning and Development Officer Engr. Estella Margate was also present during the turn-over.

Environmental protection has always been one of priorities of the City Government. This can be seen in the intentional initiatives that were launched to secure the integrity of Tagbilaran City’s environmental assets.

First and foremost was the safe closure of the open dumpsite in Brgy. Dampas which was successfully carried out last year, coupled with the establishment of the Centralized Materials Recovery Facility.

Tree planting activities were also carried out in the open spaces in the city, the recent of which is the tree nurturing campaign in partnership with the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) where 161 fully grown trees in container were distributed throughout Tagbilaran in an effort to increase its green cover.

The new garbage trucks will augment the existing workforce of garbage collection in the 15 barangays. (Jeanette Busano)
