Humility matters

MERRIAM-Webster Dictionary defines humility as the freedom from pride or arrogance. It is the quality or the state of being humble. Google also determines humility as a modest or low view of one’s importance. It is also the feeling or attitude that you have no particular importance that makes you better than others or having a lack of pride. Humility is a type of modesty that will get you very far in your life as a person, a contender, and a leader.

Humility yields open-mindedness. When applying humility to your own life, you are more eager to hear outside perspectives. No longer is it a game of competition among others, but rather a fair game of learning from others. The good news to spread about this game is that you are coachable. Humility is unique to silence any selfish desires occupying your mind and bring you back to reality- a world that thrives on collaboration, not solo effort (Mykel Broady, June 21, 2021).

It is essential to stay humble because humility helps you develop a kinder thought and filch to interacting with others and influences how you perceive yourself and the world around you. Humility allows one to extend more compassion and empathy to others. Those who practice humility are more likely to consider others’ beliefs and opinions. This is most likely because humility offers the opportunity to become less self-involved and more attuned to the feelings of others. Humility also helps in the development of self-growth and self-awareness because it allows persons to acknowledge ways in which they can improve themselves. Humility can produce more happiness, positive emotions, and well-being because a person understands the self more clearly. They can be comfortable with who they are and who they are not (Why is it important to stay humble? June 30, 2022).

It is also important to be humble so that people around you will not say you are arrogant and boastful. It is better to be simple, down-to-earth, and humble than to be complacent and arrogant. Let us all remember that being straightforward, down-to-earth, and humble is what other people are and God-like. Let us not show other people what we have accomplished. It is because if you tell them all your achievements or all you have, they will say or think you are arrogant and boastful. Let them discover our accomplishments or achievements. Let us work silently and let them find out or see what we have acquired or achieved in life.

Other people like humble persons. It is because humble persons are not boastful. They do not show or flaunt their wealth, status, accomplishments, or others. They are also grateful for everything they have in life. Humble people recognize how lucky they are each day and are thankful for what they have. They do not belittle others. They see others as equals. They are not jealous. They do not feel this way and instead respect others for their work. They are not proud. Humble people have no reason to be prideful and thus do not feel this way. They are not rude. Humility makes a person courteous and kind, even under challenging circumstances. They are not materialistic. They are not possessive. They do not feel sorry for themselves. A humble person understands that every experience, good or bad, can eventually be used for something greater than themselves- thus, they never feel sorry for themselves. They are truthful. They will put themselves in someone else’s shoes. Humble people take time to imagine what it is like for someone else. This allows them to see things from a different perspective. They often end up feeling sorry or excited for others when there was nothing about that person’s situation with which they should be concerned. They are not judgemental. They are not arrogant. Arrogance is a sign of an inflated ego, which indicates that the person feels like they deserve to be treated better than others because of their superiority. They will not get defensive. Humble people focus their energy on things that matter, not the opinions of others- they know they are doing the best they can with what they have and do not need others’ approval to be happy (The 21 Attributes of a Humble Person, June 30, 2022).

Let us all remember that if we desire the love of God and man, let us be HUMBLE.
