BOHOL is looking to attract more Japanese visitors through charter flights, educational tourism, and community-based learning experiences.

This came after the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), led by Gov. Aris Aumentado, met with officials from the Japan Tourist Bureau (JTB) Corporation on October 9, 2026, at the Governor’s Office.

The courtesy visit focused on the upcoming second charter flight from Japan to Bohol in December, which is expected to bring more than 170 passengers, mainly families.

JTB is also studying the possibility of another charter flight in May 2027, with a familiarization tour planned before the proposed schedule to further promote Bohol to the Japanese market.

Furthermore, JTB representatives noted that many Japanese travelers are still unfamiliar with Bohol, underscoring the need to strengthen destination promotions and introduce the island’s attractions and experiences to a wider audience.

Earlier that day, the delegation visited the Uplifted Marine Terrace in Maribojoc and participated in a cleanup drive.

The group also explored opportunities for community immersions and educational activities that would allow students to experience Bohol’s natural environment, culture, and local communities.

JTB also plans to conduct another sustainability activity in Alona Beach, Panglao, involving volunteers in a cleanup drive to support environmental protection and responsible tourism.

Present during the meeting were Department of Tourism (DOT) 7 Regional Director Dr. Gelena Asis-Dimpas, DOT-7 Senior Tourism Operations Officer Riza Marie Macaibay, JTB Asia Pacific Philippines Corporation HR and Administration Manager Maribeth Ambon, along with other JTB representatives and Aboitiz InfraCapital Airports representative Blessie Cruz.

Representing PGBh, Provincial Administrator Asteria Caberte and Bohol Provincial Tourism Office (BPTO) Head Joanne Pinat were also present at the meeting.

The initiative supports the PGBh’s Strategic Governance Roadmap, which promotes sustainable tourism and local economic development through responsible tourism in Bohol, a UNESCO Global Geopark. (PIMO/ARB)
