THE Tagbilaran City Primary Care Facility held a three-day training for newly appointed Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) from the city’s different barangays.
The training took place on August 18–20, 2026 at JJ’s Seafood Village.
It used the 2022 Barangay Health Worker Reference Manual as the main learning resource.
The goal was to equip new BHWs with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to perform their duties and deliver quality primary health care services in their respective Barangay Health Stations.
The program covered lectures on the roles and responsibilities of BHWs, policies governing Barangay Health Stations, the role of BHWs in the community, household profiling, masterlisting of target clients, health status monitoring, and the proper safekeeping of equipment and medical supplies.
Participants also joined hands-on activities on taking vital signs, proper documentation, accurate completion of health forms, and other essential BHW processes.
These activities gave them practical experience in carrying out their day-to-day responsibilities.
City Health Officer Dr. Jeia Pondoc emphasized the important role of BHWs as frontliners in promoting community health and supporting primary health care delivery at the barangay level.
Mayor Jane Yap also underscored the contribution of BHWs to the city’s health services, noting that they are among the first and most accessible health workers in the barangays.
Before the August 18–20 training, the Tagbilaran City Primary Care Facility also conducted a three-day Refresher Training for existing BHWs in three batches earlier this month.
That training likewise focused on enhancing their knowledge and skills in delivering primary health care services.
The activity is part of the city’s continuing efforts to build a competent and empowered BHW workforce capable of providing responsive, efficient, and quality health services to barangays across Tagbilaran City.
