25MW solar power in Dagohoy town okayed

OUTGOING Mayor Sofronio Apat of Dagohoy town has confirmed that the proposed 25 megawatts solar project is set to be erected in barangay San Vicente.

Apat  told this paper that he welcomes it and thanked that Dagohoy is being selected to be the venue for the gigantic solar power project.

This means a lot for the townsfolk since, aside from job opportunity for his people, it is hoped for a reliable source of energy.

He said that at first, it may be expensive to put up such project by PetroGreen Energy Corporation but it may also be cheaper for consumers in the long run for it is renewable and environment-friendly.

Recently, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan has granted by way of Resolution No. 2021-1189 the proposed 25-MW Dagohoy Solar Power Project in barangay San Vicente of the town.

Earlier, the provincial board has passed resolution No. 2021-698 favorably endorsing to the Department of Energy and other concerned agencies for Bohol Energy development Advisory Group resolution no. 01-2021 and Provincial Development Council Resolution No. 49-C—2021 pertaining to the said project.

Apat said that the solar power energy  project, if finished, will support the need for Bohol island-based power supply.

Bohol is still experiencing unstable power supply as it is greatly dependent on Bohol-Leyte geothermal that supplies some 90 MW of electricity of its needs.

The province is always at the receiving end when catastrophe struck since it has no island-based enough power generating capacity.

When 2013 quake and worst super typhoon Odette in December 2021 struck, the province suffered and was rendered powerless for months.

After Odette, three hydro power plants in Loboc, Sevilla and Balilihan were rendered non-functional. They may be back to operations three years after, according to Bohol electric cooperatives. (rvo)
