Prelate-anointed bishop ‘change of heart’ void May 26 investiture

FR. SACO

TAGBILARAN CITY – Rev. Fr. Gerardo “Jingboy” Saco, who was appointed by Pope Leo XIV withdrew from being ordained as the eight bishop of Tagbilaran diocese recently, according to his official statement released to the public.

His episcopal ordination was supposed to take place on May 26, 2026.

“I sincerely ask for your understanding regarding this change of heart. It comes from a deep awareness of my own human limitations and inadequacies,” Fr. Saco said.

But he reaffirms his continued commitment to serve as a priest and to journey with the community in faith, guided by the Risen Lord.

He is now the vicar-general of cathedral of St. Joseph, The Worker in this city.

He was then appointed on March 25 by the Pope to succeed Bishop Alberto Uy, who is now the Archbishop of Cebu.

The Pope has reportedly accepted the decline of Fr. Saco per confirmation of Archbishop Uy.

Fr Saco’s decision to back out rendered Tagbilaran diocese shepherd-less. (Ric Obedencio)
