IN A significant step toward strengthening local governance, the City Government of Tagbilaran formally inaugurated and blessed its new Legislative Building on March 16, 2026, marking a historic milestone for the city’s legislative body.
The ceremony, highlighted by a Holy Mass, solemn blessing and inauguration rites, symbolized not only the opening of a new facility but also a renewed commitment to public service, unity, and good governance.
The building now serves as the official home of the city’s 16th Sangguniang Panlungsod, which was previously housed on the second floor of City Hall.
The newly inaugurated three-storey building is designed to enhance efficiency and accessibility in legislative operations.
The first floor houses the offices of the Vice Mayor, the Sangguniang Panlungsod Secretary, and the Archives Room.
The second floor accommodates the offices of the ten elected councilors and two ex officio members representing the Liga ng mga Barangay and the Sangguniang Kabataan.
Meanwhile, the third floor features a spacious and state-of-the-art Session Hall, along with a conference room and open area for legislative work.
The building is also PWD-friendly and equipped with connecting walkways that link it directly to the City Hall building, ensuring convenience and accessibility for both officials and the public.
Following the blessing and inauguration, the Sangguniang Panlungsod convened its first regular session in the new legislative chambers, led by City Vice Mayor Adam Relson Jala.
The session was attended by City Mayor Jane Yap and Bohol Vice Governor Pacifico Nicanor Besas Jr., who joined the city legislators in celebrating the milestone.
In her message, Mayor Jane Yap described the occasion as “a proud and historic moment for our city as we officially open a new home for legislative work and public service,” noting that the event was made even more meaningful as it coincided with the celebration of the 461st Blood Compact Anniversary and the Saulog Tagbilaran 2026 launch.
She emphasized that the building stands as a testament to the city’s capability to undertake major infrastructure projects with zero loan and purely local source funds, highlighting fiscal discipline and responsible governance.
The historic event reflected unity, gratitude, and a shared vision among city leaders as they continue to serve the people of Tagbilaran with integrity, cooperation, and purpose. (rvo)
