BOHOL Governor Erico Aristotle “Aris” Aumentado and Cebu Governor Pamela “Pam” Baricuatro have officially signed the historic “SugBohol” Sisterhood Pact at the Ceremonial Hall of the Bohol Provincial Capitol, marking a significant milestone in strengthening economic growth and cooperation between the two neighboring provinces.
The alliance seeks to deepen collaboration in tourism, agriculture, trade and investment, education, culture, disaster preparedness, and good governance. It fulfills the shared vision first initiated in November 2024 during the joint session of legislators from both provinces. Under the agreement, the two provincial governments will exchange best governance practices and establish joint committees to oversee collaborative projects and explore new business opportunities.
In his message, Vice Governor Nick Besas emphasized that the sea is not a barrier but a bridge connecting the two islands.
“The sea that separates us has never truly divided us; instead, it has served as the link that binds our shared destiny, friendship, and aspirations through the years. Today, we choose cooperation over competition.”
Governor Aris Aumentado described the SugBohol partnership as a modern expression of the spirit of Sandugo.
“SugBohol breathes new life into the spirit of the Sandugo. We are no longer separated by the Camotes Sea; rather, we are united by an enduring covenant of mutual respect and cooperation.”
Governor Pam Baricuatro likewise reaffirmed the enduring ties between Cebu and Bohol.
“We have always been neighbors, partners, and friends. Our history and culture have long been intertwined, and our people have crossed between our islands as naturally as visiting family.”
Following the signing ceremony, the two governors exchanged symbolic gifts. Cebu Vice Governor Glenn Anthony Soco remarked that the agreement is more than just a signed document—it is a commitment that will endure for future generations.
The ceremony concluded with a special musical performance by the Seraphim Choir.
The SugBohol Sisterhood Pact is aligned with Bohol’s Strategic Governance Roadmap as the Philippines’ first UNESCO Global Geopark, reinforcing the province’s commitment to sustainable development, regional cooperation, and shared prosperity.
