1st Christmas Drum and Lyre competition rings City holidays

DRUMBEATS AND CHEERS The Yap-Jala Administration kicks off the 1st Tagbilaran City Christmas Drum & Lyre Competition, a fun and festive celebration of music and community spirit.

THE City Government of Tagbilaran proudly launches today the First Tagbilaran City Christmas Drum & Lyre Competition, bringing together top-performing marching bands from the city and across the Province of Bohol.

The historic event unfolds today, December 14, 2025 starting with a parade at 3:00 p.m. from Tagbilaran City College to the City Hall Grounds, followed by the grand showdown at 6:00 p.m.

City Budget Officer Marysol Perocho, who serves as the Chairperson of the event Committee, disclosed that the activity features two main categories: Category A, which is open exclusively to public and private elementary and high schools within Tagbilaran City, and Category B, which welcomes participating schools from various municipalities of Bohol.

Generous prizes await the winners, with the Champion receiving ₱90,000; 1st Runner-Up earning ₱60,000; 2nd Runner-Up taking home ₱45,000; and all other participating groups receiving ₱25,000 each as consolation prizes.

Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Yap expressed her excitement and gratitude, saying that the competition is more than just a display of musical talent but a celebration of discipline, teamwork, and youth creativity.

She added that as the city formally opens its first-ever Christmas Drum & Lyre Competition, it honors young performers who bring life and color to the city’s festivities, and she hopes it becomes a cherished annual tradition that continues to inspire unity and Christmas spirit among residents.

For Category A, participating schools include Holy Name University, Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School, Tagbilaran City Science High School, Manga National High School, and Cogon Elementary School.

Meanwhile, Category B features Fermin Tayabas National High School (Calape), Holy Cross Academy (Tubigon), St. Augustine Institute (Sagbayan), Kinan-oan High School (Trinidad), Mayuga National High School (Guindulman), and Oy National High School (Loboc).

This first-ever Christmas Drum & Lyre Competition serves as a major cultural highlight for the holiday season, strengthening local traditions, encouraging youth development, and positioning Tagbilaran City as a center of music, creativity, and festive celebration.
