“Abi nako’g tarong si Gob”

WE will discuss about a certain Governor, no He or She, not even the place, just the Governor, period.

This Governor is popularized as straight, incorruptible and an anathema to the endemic corruption that is besetting this present administration.

Yes, tarong ni siya.

Kunohay.

Why kunohay?

* * *

Well, it goes this way.

Midaog ni siya despite overwhelming odds. Midaog siya despite the super invincible armour of the opponent and inspite of the much-vaunted well-oiled (meaning, daghang kwarta ug ayuda) political machinery sa iyang kontra.

In fact, many were surprised why the Governor won ug giunsang pagka-unsaa nga midaog man siya.

Because for all intents and purposes, dehado gyod kaayo siya sa patad pa panahon sa kampanya.

Anyway, so the Governor is now the one holding court in the capitol.

* * *

At the early part his administration, his close aides were scampering for “sponsors” and generous “donors” because they needed to do something outside of the coffers of public funds. They needed to finance something that could not be funded by programmed budget of the provincial government.

So the aides recited several contractors and suppliers as potential “donors.”

But the Governor rejected them all.

Tinarong ning atong pagdumala sa probinsiya, the Governor added.

So the aides scampered for “other options.” And it was not easy because majority of the contractors and suppliers were reluctant to deal with a “straight” and incorruptible” Governor.

One time, while at the coffee shop in one of the famous hotels in the city, one of the aides saw the Chief of Staff of the Governor enjoying his sip so he went to him for some updates.

When asked why he was there and who was with him, the Chief of Staff (COS) said he was with the Governor who was in a closed-door meeting with a certain contractor.

When asked who, the COS mentioned the name of the contractor, who incidentally, was in the list of No-No’s, kay corrupt and involved in some anomalies kuno.

And as if on cue, the door opened and out came the Governor and the contractor and by their actions, they were chummy and happily sharing hush-hush conversation.

Kay naulaw, mitalikod na lang ang Aide.

That same incident was repeated another time and in another place and with another contractor who was also on the No-No list of the Governor.

Agehh.

This is the same Gov.

The Gov handily won in the last election because the other Gov, the sitting Gov and the defeated Gov at the same time sided with the incumbent President.

The people did not like it so they voted for the Gov, and the victory was overwhelming.
