
SPHINX Shotokan Karatedo International was triumphant during the AAK-Cebu Championships last July 12, 2025 held at SM Seaside Cebu City.
The team from Tagbilaran City have garnered a total of 18 gold, 2 silver and 13 bronze, displaying their prowess and skill in Karatedo.
The gold medal winners in their respective categories are Joseth Alenza Borja for Novice Kata 10-11 years old; Leanne Marie Alvarez Individual advance kata 14-15 yrs. Old; Johanne Khiro de Leon Cadet intermediate kata 14-15 yrs old; Stiffany Mae Alvarez and Charles Lofranco for Advance senior kata 18 yrs old and above and Senior intermediate kata 18 yrs old and above respectively.
Intermediate and Advance Team Kata 9-11 years composed of Jesse Eron Lodonia, Czar Ezekeil Dosdos, Keiden Edward Shane Kelk and Advance Team Kata 12-15 yrs. old made up of Feliz Emm Rulona, Justie Athena Jaspe and Leanne Marie Alvarez also won gold medals.
The team also excelled and earned gold medals in kumite which literally means meeting of hands in karate. Keiden Chantel Ellaine Kelk for individual kumite 8-9 yrs. old; Jesse Eron Lodonia- Individual Kumite 10-11 yrs. old; Daryl Kenze Agta- Open kumite 14-15 yrs. old +70 kgs and Precious Queenie Autentico- Cadet kumite 14-15 yrs. old -61 kgs.
Feliz Emm Rulona and Precious Queenie Autentico garnered Silver medals for Intermediate Individual Kata for 14-15 yrs old. And another silver for Rulona for Advance Individual Kata 14-15 yrs. Old.
The bronze medal winners are Katsumi Silva and Clairence McRobert Capul for 8-9 yrs. old intermediate kata; Czar Ezekiel Dosdos -Intermediate kata 9-11 yrs. old; Keiden Chantel Ellaine Kelk for intermediate kata 8-9 yrs. old with Dale Malcolm Edillo both for Advance Kata 8-9 yrs. old; Keiden Edward Shane Kelk advance kata 10-11 yrs. old; and Brylle Gabriel RebaƱo novice Kata 12-13 yrs. old.
Bronze Kumite achievers were Felix III Autentico III- Kumite 6-7 yrs. old; Leanne Marie Alvarez for Individual kumite -47 kgs 14-15 yrs old-bronze and Eveline Van DER Hoek- Junior kumite -59kgs 16-17 yrs. old.
Sanctioned by the Karate Filipinas (NSA), this tournament was participated by 23 clubs, with around 850 participants from Visayas and Mindanao.
The team was led by coaches Sonny Alvarez, Roedil Edille and Eden Lucero.
The City Government of Tagbilaran in coordination with the City Sports Office and University of Bohol have assisted the Sphinx Shotokan Karatedo International in this endeavour. And most of all, the parents who have always supported and accompanied the athletes in this competition.
The team is gearing up for the upcoming tournaments such as Sandugo-Tigi Championship, July 26-27, 2nd Mayors Cup Panglao, August 16, 2025, and AAK International Championship Tagaytay City, AUGUST 22-24 2025 which will be participated by the Australian National Team and Turkey. Also, preparations for the The Batang Pinoy National to be held in General Santos City this coming October 25-31, which is a selection for the upcoming South East Asian Karate Federation Championship (SEAKAF) next year to be held in 2026.
