TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — A 42-year-old man was gunned down in front of his home in Barangay Bool early Saturday morning (June 28, 2025) while cradling his two-week-old grandchild, police said.
The fatality was identified as Rodelito Basillote Tanyo, a native of Toledo City, Cebu who had recently settled in Purok 7, F. Ligason Street, Bool.
Investigators from the Tagbilaran City Police Station said Tanyo sustained a single gunshot wound to the head and died instantly. The infant he was holding was unharmed.
Witnesses told police that two men on a blue-and-white Yamaha Mio scooter stopped in front of Basillote’s residence at around 7:10 a.m.
The driver and backrider were wearing black jackets, blue jeans, full-face helmets.
The back-rider allegedly dismounted, drew a handgun and fired at point-blank range before the pair sped toward Barangay Dampas and out of the city limits.
City police chief Lt. Col. John Escober said a hot-pursuit operation has been mounted and checkpoints have been set up along possible exit routes.
Mayor Jane Yap condemned the killing, calling it an “isolated case” but promising swift justice. “We have instructed our police force to solve this at the soonest possible time and we will extend all necessary assistance to the victim’s family,” the mayor said in a statement. (BIN)
