WINNERS danced in a colorful array as the grand finale for the Saulog King and Queen Competition unfolded in the Cogon Gymnasium on April 30.
Lady of ceremonies Glory Araneta announced the special awards prior to the grand winner. Best in Costume went to Brgy. Poblacion 3, while Best in Choreography was awarded to Brgy. Dao. Saulog Festival King and Queen 1st runner-up went to Brgy. Manga and Brgy. Poblacion 3, the 2nd runner-up went to Brgy. Taloto and Brgy. Tiptip respectively. The grand champion was swept by Brgy. Cogon’s Saulog Festival King Justin James Bierneza and Saulog Festival Queen Kathleen Ausejo.
The Saulog King and Queen Festival showcased the talents of local artisans and designers. The concept was to transform the Saulog King and Queen Festival into a platform where Tagbilaranon artists can showcase their creativity, especially that theirs was halted due to the threat of the pandemic.
The Saulog Tagbilaran 2022 Executive Committee provided the opportunity and enabled the local designers’ masterpieces to be featured, an impressive fusion of cultural and contemporary concepts was showcased during the competition.
Representatives from each barangay shined onstage led by Brgy.Cogon’s Justine James Bierneza and Kathleen Ausejo; Cabawan’s John Jensen Semblante and Bernadette Tabaniag; Taloto’s Gerald Anaviso and Marvelou Kate Remolador; Mansasa’s Jasru Izaac Ramirez and Alyssa Marian Pumatong; Ubujan’s Eduardo Gallenero Jr. and Mefairlove Anino; Dampas’s Jerome Dacullo and Anikka Jade Agazon; Booy’s Jack Green and Denise Cadenas; Tiptip’s Christian Celada and Hary Mae Vera Membrillos; Bool’s Michael Paul Bagares and Vegee Doria; Poblacion 1’s Alvin Villaber and Sophia Socias; Poblacion 3’s Llyod Virgel Aplacador and Hazel Mae Mejares; Manga’s Jan Nino Baguinang and Cathrine Zeta Batiancila; Dao’s Jonathan Tambis and Kate Janyne Lanit; San Isidro’s Ianne Alqueza and Liezel Budlong, and Poblacion 2’s RJ Clent Dosdos and Jamby Lluvido.
City Mayor John Geesnell “BABA” Yap emphasized that the health and safety protocols were enforced in the conduct of the entire activities.
“Participants in this month-long celebration were only those who are fully-vaccinated. The organizers were also given clear instructions to implement the standard health protocols such as the wearing of face masks, washing of hands, and physical distancing. We believe that it is just fitting to embrace the new normal by doing our usual activities with caution,” Mayor Yap said. (Jeanette Busano)
