TCC hosts round table discussion
with Slovenian University professors

The event explored opportunities for academic collaborations and knowledge exchange.

TAGBILARAN City College welcomed esteemed Slovenian university professors, Prof. Rok Ovsenik and Prof. Marija Ovsenik, for a round table discussion on Tourism Destination Management and Social Gerontology held on March 7, 2025.

Prof. Rok Ovsenik, Head of the Institute for Innovative Tourism, and Prof. Marija Ovsenik, Head of the Department of Social Gerontology at Alma Mater Europaea University in Slovenia, engaged in a meaningful dialogue with local institutional leaders and faculty members.

The event was facilitated by Atty. Kathy Blanche Borja, City Legal Officer, and was graced by the presence of Dr. Del Mark A. Cagatin, College President, Dr. Mitzi S. Fortich, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Tourism Management Faculty Members.

The discussion covered crucial topics such as culture and sustainable tourism destinations, tourism destination management and social gerontology. Opportunities for research and work collaborations were also explored, aiming to establish academic partnerships, faculty exchanges, and joint research efforts between Tagbilaran City College and Slovenian institutions.

Mayor Jane Yap expressed her full support for the initiative, emphasizing the importance of strengthening international partnerships for the betterment of Tagbilaran City.

“This dialogue between Tagbilaran City College and our Slovenian guests signifies our commitment to enhancing education and tourism development. The exchange of knowledge and expertise in tourism destination management and social gerontology will greatly benefit our community. We are excited about the opportunities this collaboration will bring, especially in promoting sustainable tourism and developing inclusive programs for our aging population,” Mayor Yap stated.

College President Dr. Del Mark A. Cagatin expressed his optimism about the collaboration, stating, “This dialogue serves as a vital step towards establishing fruitful partnerships with international institutions, allowing us to exchange knowledge and create impactful research that benefits our community.”

The fruitful exchange of ideas marks the beginning of what promises to be a productive and long-lasting partnership between Tagbilaran City College and Slovenian institutions.
