NO to VOTE BUYING

THIS week marks the end in the celebration of the Lover’s month.

In the same way that as one celebrates his birthday, the month of February is the much-awaited month of the twelve months of the year. This is the feeling of almost all individuals. Except of course when one is out of his senses.

But as the one-month celebration comes to an end, it must also be remembered that true love does not end. In fact, it has no end, to Short Cuts’ mind. It is enduring and everlasting, and both parties know how to adjust if only to experience a lasting relationship.

Seventy-eight (78) days from today, the whole citizenry of the Republic of the Philippines shall exercise their right to choose the personalities to man the different national and local elective positions.

In the national level, twelve (12) senators are to be elected.

In every province, a governor, vice-governor and ten (10) members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan are to be elected..

And, in the municipalities, a mayor, vice-mayor, and eight (8) members of the Sangguniang Bayan are also to be chosen.

In such activity, registered voters in the entire country are all mandated to exercise their respective right of suffrage. Parallel to this event, everyone is reminded that the right to vote is a sacred one. As such, everybody is cautioned not to sell their respective votes.

NO to VOTE BUYING, everyone is told.

As the principal advocate to this movement, the clergy is displaying the same announcements in all conspicuous places in the province. Short Cuts believes that more than majority of the entire voting populace are warned on the consequences once one sells his vote.

But, can this movement overcome the strong desires of majority of the electorates for a “PAHINUNGOD” during an election?

They did this, according to many voters in an interview, because once these candidates are in office, they can no longer be personally contacted.

Whether true or not, vote buying is still in our midst.

Is there truth to the last statement?
