TAGBILARAN City Councilor Malvin Misael “Atoy” Torralba has cited alleged legal charges filed before the Office of the Ombudsman against the family of city Mayor Jane Cajes Yap and his husband, Baba Yap, the former mayor and now gunning for congressman in first district.
This came during his short speech before the audience at JJS Seafood resto and after he and his slate filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the 2025 elections on Monday, Oct. 7, 2024.
He said that the Yaps are facing charges but he did not elaborate.
The Yaps just kept mum, Baba Yap said. He added that it is not their practice to answer allegations, especially those they perceived to be fake news nor attack those they think their detractors.
Torralba said that his running for mayor is to make that “Asenso Pa More” be felt by everyone in the city as he is strongly advocating for the environmental preservation and protection.
But this mantra appeared to be meant just for a few families and appeared to be “superficial” development. He cited as example the construction of a city coliseum, supposedly to be built in barangay Cabawan but now being erected in the area where the Yaps may benefit from said construction. And this should not be taken lightly, he said.
In the course of his speech, he slammed the poor drainage, or the lack of it as when it rains, even a little, some roads in the city are flooded to the suffering of the commuters.
He also introduced as one of his agenda, once elected as city mayor, water treatment needed for the potable requirement of the growing city population. This he will act at once with the determination of solving the solid waste problem the city is facing.
“Karun naka-file nata officially sigurado dad- on ang tingog sa katawhan nga madungog ug matagad sa serbisyo sa dakbayan Tagbilaran,” he told members of the media as newsfeed bu Bohol Island News.
He was accompanied by his parents, former Tagbilaran City Mayor Jose Torralba and former councilor Betty Co-Torralba.
While Torralba filed his COC, 2nd dist. Rep. Vanessa Aumentado arrived at the venue to show support to Abante Tagbilaran group.
Torralba’s vice mayor is Jose Antonio “Toto” Veloso served as city councilor and vice mayor.
Aspirants councilors of Abante Tagbilaran are Rey Tirol, Juliet Salinas, Gerry Madanguit, Joseph Cacho, Elmer Taldo, Giovanni Reformina, Ody Glovasa, Marina Salamanca, Joseph Lamdagan and Jonn Dela Torre.
Torralba, the number one city councilor in 2022 elections, is a licensed physical therapist. (rvo)
