“Buwan ng Wika”: A Celebration for All Filipinos
(Mental Health Management Protocol)

THE Philippines celebrates Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa in August, which is also known as Buwan ng Wika or Linggo ng Wika. It is a month-long event that aims to promote Filipino, the national language of the country. The goal of the month-long celebration is to convey to the global audience the value of Filipino as the country’s official language and the pride that the Filipino people take in it.

August was selected because August 19 is the birthday of the late President of the Philippines, Manuel L. Quezon, who is also known as the “Father of the National Language.” In 1935, during the Commonwealth era, he began taking major steps toward the establishment of a national language in the country. A language derived from Tagalog was recognized as the official dialect in 1946, eleven years after it was officially adopted.

In 2024, the theme for the month-long celebration,  “Filipino, Wikang Mapaglaya.”, emphasized on the importance of the Filipino language to make this country more productive, where the Filipino citizens are empowered.        Ubay 2 East District, in DepD SDO, joins the celebration.
