TAGBILARAN City concluded its National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) celebration with an awarding ceremony on July 31, 2024, at the City Hall Atrium.
The event, organized by the City Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) featured various activities and recognitions aimed at promoting disaster preparedness and resilience.
The event commenced with a welcome address by CDRRMO Head Gerard Lavadia, setting the tone for a day filled with recognition and celebration of collective efforts in disaster resilience.
In his opening remarks, Lavadia underscored the importance of continuous education and community involvement in disaster risk reduction.
Mayor Jane Yap delivered the keynote message, emphasizing the critical role of preparedness in safeguarding the city against natural and man-made disasters.
She stated, “Our collective efforts and preparedness are crucial in building a resilient community. Let us continue to work together to ensure the safety and well-being of our city and its residents.”
Mayor Yap also highlighted the achievements of Tagbilaran City in enhancing its disaster resilience infrastructure and the ongoing training programs for local communities.
Plaques of Appreciation were awarded to individuals and organizations for their outstanding contributions to disaster risk reduction and management.
The awardees included Marietta Gasatan, City Councilor Eliezer Borja, Tagbilaran City Primary Care Facility, City General Services Office, City Social Welfare and Development Office, City Engineer’s Office, F/CInsp Matt Riel Pono, CHARL, Kabalikat Radiocom- Tagbilaran City Chapter, Philippine Red Cross- Bohol Chapter, Tarsier 117, Lorna Cañete, Ms. Marissa Remolador, Philippine Coast-Bohol Station, Bohol Maritime Police Station, Tagbilaran City Media Bureau, Engr. Raul Aparicio II, CAPACities-CRS, Dr. Rosalinda Paredes, and P/Lt. Col. John Kareen Escober.
Certificates of Appreciation were also given to CDRRMO Division Heads, acknowledging their leadership and dedication: Von Angalot of the Operations and Warning Division, Marko Emmanuel Longjas of the Research and Planning Division, April Joy Yarte of the Training Division, and Airah Junerey Artaba of the Administrative Division.
A key highlight of the celebration was the recognition of the Best Barangay in Disaster Preparedness, showcasing the exceptional efforts of local communities in enhancing their disaster resilience. Barangay San Isidro earned 1st place for their innovative approaches and effective disaster preparedness plans. Barangay Ubujan and Barangay Taloto were also recognized, securing 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
Additionally, the Tagbilaran City Hall Interdepartmental Poster Making Contest provided a creative platform for various departments to showcase their commitment to disaster resilience. Leia Reformina from Tagbilaran City College emerged as the first-place winner, with her poster highlighting the importance of community involvement and proactive measures in disaster risk reduction. Mark Agua from the City Planning and Development Office and Nida Dupit from the Business Permit and Licensing Office won second and third places respectively, further emphasizing the collective dedication to fostering a disaster-resilient city.
The culmination of the NDRM in Tagbilaran City not only celebrated past achievements but also set the stage for future initiatives, reinforcing the city’s dedication to building a resilient and prepared city.
