Job Satisfaction in the Workplace
(Mental Health Management Protocol)

THE Department of Education’s (DepEd) goal is to produce Filipinos who love their country and who are endowed with the morals and skills needed to realize their full potential and make significant contributions to the advancement of their nation. The department is always improving as a learner-centered organization in order to better serve its stakeholders and fulfill the DepEd dream. If properly carried out, DepEd’s vision and goal will surely generate God-fearing, community-focused, environmentally conscious, and patriotic Filipino citizens. (https://www.deped.gov.ph/about-deped/vision-mission-core-values-and-mandate).

In order to deliver high-quality education and fulfill its mission, DepEd has undergone numerous reorganizations.  It provides locally driven initiatives and activities to enhance and fortify teachers’ abilities and skills in addition to the ones that are required. The provision of educational services resulted in overlapping tasks for teachers.  As a result, instructors encounter challenging moments throughout their careers. This is corroborated by the fact that the majority of teachers who were asked about challenging times in their careers stated that they happened during the so-called over-lapping activities. Apart from their official duties, educators are occasionally asked to carry out extra tasks in the classroom.

If teachers are given activities that are tailored to their requirements in the provision of basic education services, then positive social interactions and stable relationships are seen as the ultimate aims or impacts. Republic Act No. 4670, also referred to as the Magna Carta for Public School Teachers, is a piece of legislation that aims to improve the financial standing and general well-being of educators in public schools. (RA 4670).

To achieve the targets and goals as mandated, there is a need to conduct a study on the teaching and non-teaching personnel in the school so that data-driven and needs-based intervention can be proposed. As a public schools district supervisor, there is a need to ensure that teaching and non-teaching personnel in the assigned district are properly taken care of. There is a need to determine their level of job satisfaction so that appropriate measures or interventions can be offered based on data.

Checklists, internet surveys, interviews, and questionnaires are examples of research instruments. Selecting the appropriate research instrument is crucial as it can minimize the duration required for data collection and yield more precise outcomes for the stated goal of the study. Item building, validity testing, reliability testing, and idea discovery are the four phases in the instrument development process.

It is hoped and prayed that this job satisfaction research activity will serve as a basis for proposing intervention measures. As one of the DepEd/NEAP/PNU scholars through a virtual platform, she desires that one day, a valid, reliable and accurate data in a research concerning this would be presented.
