Carmen marks 155th founding anniversary

CARMEN Mayor Conchita “Che” Toribio Delos Reyes led the Carmenanons in the celebration of Carmen town’s 155th Founding Anniversary Friday, March 1, 2024.

The 29 barangays came together to celebrate the 155th Founding Anniversary of the town with the theme: “Ang Padayon nga Panaghiusa, maoy Pondasyon sa Padayon sa Kalamboan sa Agrikultura, Turismo ug Kinabuhi sa atong Katawhan”.

The festivities kicked off with a colorful parade in the town proper with Mayor Che Delos Reyes, Vice-Mayor Romeo Bigay Jr., Sangguniang Bayan Members and Board Member Nathaniel Binlod leading and accompanied by all barangay officials, Diwata nga Barangay candidates, national line agencies, other government and non-government organizations also participated enthusiastically.

Highlight kick-off activity was the opening of the Agri Fair 2024 at the Carmen Municipal Gymnasium dubbed with the theme “Panag-hiusang Panaw Para sa Agrikultura” highlighting the agricultural products and development of the town.

In her foundation day message, Mayor Che Delos Reyes highlighted the unity and cooperation towards agricultural and tourism progress in the town gearing towards upliftment of lives of Carmenanons.

“Ipaabot nako ang akong kalipay ug pasalamat sa 29 ka barangays, mga barangay officials, Sangguniang Bayan ug sa tanan sa pagsuporta ug panaghiusa”, said Mayor Delos Reyes.

She added that unity and cooperation are crucial for the development of Carmen and there will stand stronger than ever inspite of the challenges.

As Mayor Che opened the Agri Fair 2024, she highlighted their Carmen farmers as the back bone of the community working tirelessly to provide sustenance.

She noted that the LGU remains supportive to agricultural endeavors to ensure farmers will have resources and knowledge needed to thrive to a stronger agricultural sector for economic prosperity in Carmen and the Province of Bohol.

Department of Agriculture (DA) Region 7 Regional Director Angel Enriquez was the guest of honor and speaker of the activity.

Meanwhile, Third District Board Member Nathaniel Binlod, who is also a native of Carmen town echoed his support as well the leadership of the Provincial Government of Bohol.

Binlod, who is also an agriculture committee member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan in his speech, proposes to institutionalize by a provincial ordinance an Agriculture and Fishery celebration in Foundation Day activities in towns and in the province.

On the other, Mayor Che, Vice-Mayor Romeo Bigay Jr. and Board Member Nathaniel Binlod crowned the Diwata sa Barangay, 3rd placer from barangay La Paz, 2nd placer from Nueva Vida Sur and winner comes from barangay Vallehermoso. (Bob Galero)
