THE spirit of love and commitment transcended prison walls as Mayor Jane Yap solemnized the union of four couples at the Tagbilaran City Jail during the continued celebration of Hearts Month with its “Libreng Kasalan sa Tagbilaran” on February 26, 2024.
Being in a relationship with persons deprived of liberty, the couples were given the opportunity to formalize their relationships through a civil wedding ceremony.
Mayor Yap personally officiated the wedding ceremony within the confines of the City Jail.
She shared this message with the celebrators: “Love has the power to transcend any circumstance. Today, we witness the enduring strength of these unions, and it is our honor to play a part in making their dreams of marriage a reality.”
In a testament to the City Government’s commitment to inclusivity and social welfare, each couple received an extensive package of wedding essentials.
The package included free bridal gowns with veils, barongs and slacks for the grooms, wedding rings, professional hair and makeup services, cake, rice cookers, and bags of rice.
This generous gesture aimed to make their special day truly extraordinary, emphasizing the importance of love and companionship.
She was joined by Chief of Staff John Geesnell “Baba” Yap, Vice Mayor Adam Jala, JCINSP Bonifacio Plaza Jr. and Cabawan Barangay Captain Sergio Bangalao.
Their presence added a touch of communal support, emphasizing that love knows no bounds and that every individual, regardless of circumstances, deserves the opportunity to celebrate the joy of marriage.
The “Libreng Kasalan sa Tagbilaran” initiative extends beyond conventional venues, reaching into the heart of the community to embrace and uplift those who may find themselves in challenging situations.
