THE Girls Scouts of the Philippines (GSP), a current organization in the country, is one of the organizations that actively advances the objectives listed in Section 13, Article II of the 1987 Constitution. Girl Scouts engage in a variety of fun activities that show them their endless potential, such as earning badges, volunteering in the community, and making friends. In accordance with this subsection: “The State recognizes the vital role of the youth in nation-building and shall promote the true spirit of empowerment.” (https://legacy.senate.gov.ph).

Joining scouting movement is an excellent way to practice leadership, have fun, collaborate with others, explore the outdoors, and boost self-esteem and confidence. Scouts acquire the moral principles and decision-making skills necessary to accept accountability for their deeds and mature into independent people.

Every year, an annual convention is held to recognize performing districts in terms of membership, training, camping, and other aspects of the Girl Scouting movement. In the third year, which is referred to as a triennium, the election of the Council Board will be conducted. This year, the activity was held on

March 2, 2024, at Metro Center, Tagbilaran City. This year, Dagohoy District, under PSDS Exequil Cifra, is regarded as having performed the best in terms of Girl Scouting. The superintendent of the schools division, Dr. Casiana P. Caberte of the DepEd SDO, Bohol, graced her presence at the convention.

SDS Caberte recalled her experience when she was still s star scout troop leader, and even sang, “I’ve something in my pocket….”.        After the recognition ceremonies, the election of Council Board Members followed. Elected for the term of three years are the following: Council President-Emma Castillo; Vice President for Field-Delia F. Lasco; Vice President for International Participation-Esterlita Veloso; Vice President for Fund Development-Fiel Angelie Gabin; Secretary-Regina Sumaylo; Assistant Secretary-Rachel Autentico; Treasurer-Myrna C. Villorojo; Assistant Treasurer- Lolita F. Kibir; Auditor- Soniaflor V. Kapirig; Commissioner for Program- Ethelinda Laguitao; and Commissioner for Training- Ma. Maya V. Tumalon.

SDS Casiana P. Caberte of DepEd, SDO Bohol Division, and SDS Wilfreda D. Bongalos of Tagbilaran City Division are Commissioners for Administration. Worth mentioning that former CP Mariquit D. Oppus, served for two terms (six years) that led to the success of all-girl scouting activities in the Province of Bohol.       The day’s activity ended with an acceptance message from the newly elected Council President, CP Emma Castillo.
